Israeli cellist Elad Kabilio is an active soloist, chamber musician and a teaching artist. He has recently performed at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Morgan Library, and he frequently performers at Joyce Theater in New York City. He also performed at the Aspen music Festival, Young Artist Festival in Bayreuth – Germany, Chautaqua Music Festival, Keshet Eilon Music Festival in Israel and he was featured in a special edition of “Young Artist Showcase” on WQXR Radio.
Mr. Kabilio collaborates frequently with dancers from top ballet companies such as New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater and he was the music director of Ballet Next between the years 2011-2014. He currently serves as the Music Director of the Ashley Bouder Project, Based in New York City.
Mr. Kabilio is devoted to bringing music to new audiences. He has taught in many schools both in Israel and New York City, and he currently teaches at Manhattan School of Music distant learning and preparatory programs. To bring classical music to the broader public he founded MusicTalks, a chamber music series with engaging and interactive conversation held in intimate settings. Mr. Kabilio is also a founding member of 12th Night Klezmer, an ensemble that recreates the spirit and sound of the east European Klezmer tradition.
Mr. Kabilio has received numerous awards throughout his career. He was selected by the Israel Ministry of Culture as an “Outstanding Musician” and served in the Israeli Army as a member of the Israeli Defense Force string quartet, performing concerts throughout Israel. He has been awarded the America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarships for the past 10 years and he was a part of the Jerusalem Music Center’s ‘Young Musicians Group’, a special program for young talented musicians. He was awarded second prize at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music string competition where he also received the “Orchestra Excellence Award” from Maestro Zubin Mehta. He also received the Ben-Bassat Fellowship Award and the Salti Foundation award.
He served as principal cellist of the Mannes College of Music Symphony Orchestra for two years and performed with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under the baton of Daniel Barenboim on tours in Europe and the US. He performed with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Gustavo Dudamel, James Conlon, David Zinman, Leonard Slatkin, Itzhak Perlman and JoAnn Falletta. He has participated in many master classes presented by world renowned Cellists Bernard Greenhouse, Janos Starker, Philip Muller, Wolfgang Böttcher, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Ralph Kirshbaum, Michel Strauss, and Gary Hoffman.
Mr. Kabilio studied at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel-Aviv University, where he received both his Bachelors and Master of Music degrees. He is a graduate of Mannes College of Music in New York City and the Manhattan School of Music where he received a Professional Studies Diploma. Principal teachers include: Zvi Plesser, Hillel Zori, Marcy Rosen and Julia Lichten.
Elad is playing on a French cello on generous loan from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation.
