Meet our Artist of the Week – Caleb van der Swaagh!
Caleb will be featured at our Cello X 4 – Bach in Brazil Concert on March 31st!
We sat down with Caleb to get to know him a little bit better!
MusicTalks: Why did you choose to play the Cello? was it your first choice of instrument?
Caleb: My first choice was the violin, but since my older sister got to choose first, and I didn’t want us both to play the same instrument, i got the cello. We are five siblings and we each played a different instrument at some point or another.
MusicTalks: What is one of your most memorable musical experiences?
Caleb: When i was in high school i attended a summer music camp and i remember that to be the turning point of my musical career. I was assigned to play Debussy’s string quartet and I was so moved by the second -slow movement that i decided to pursue music professionally ever since.
MusicTalks: What would you want to do if you weren’t a musician?
Caleb: If were being honest, I wold want to be a Yankee’s player. But i think that ship has sailed
MusicTalks: Which composer would you most like to have a conversation with?
Caleb: Beethoven. Just because he wrote so many masterpieces for cello and so many of them are on my list of favorites.
